Lots of UFO work lately

Happy Sunday Morning!!  Thought I would dip in before I head for a nap....have to work tonight.  I got up early again this morning and decided to work on some more sewing.  I have been doing this for the last few weeks, and the work is starting to show.

I pieced and parted this little gem together;)  I always lament over panels, but this one has been worth it;)  I went and got a border fabric from the local quilt shop the other day and will get that on this coming week.  I also picked up six Dr. Seuss books from the thrift store...so, come on story time!! (The kids are supposed to be up here for a visit sometime in October, so I should be able to get this done for cuddling under with the grandson.)

Not the greatest pictures here, but I was in a hurry to get something up and blogged.  I picked this kit up from Sisters, OR on a trip a few years ago.  Not my preferred genre of colors and patterns, but I have it together nonetheless.  I put the blocks together really random, as displayed by the two matching prints on the left that butted up against each other, something I usually try to plan not to happen.  I switched and moved and pondered, and gave up...sewed it together anyway.  Simple. Done.

Then there is this beast.  This sat in my UFO pile for five years.  Gaudy, to say the least.  But, hey...that's me sometimes;)  At least it will keep someone warm this winter;)  We will soon have a total of four people living in our apartment, so the more quilts the better. (My son has moved back in and my mother is due to move in sometime in November.)  The colors are a bit washed out here, but it really does all go together in theory.  I will add a border or two to balance that light yellow and purple out.

I got this back from the quilt shop I made the sample for a few months ago.  I don't have anymore of this fabric line so I am going to have to make something up for the binding and backing.  I am not really attached to this one, so it may get donated.  Or gifted.  Not sure yet.

Then there is Oscar;)  He just had to curl up under the top while I was sewing;) He is such a buddy;)

So, all these tops are together (for the most part).  I just have to raise the funds for batting.  I should be able to do that in a week or so. It will be a marathon of quilting and binding.

Gotta go nap.  Take care and Happy Quilting!!

Oscar and my kitties all seem to have the same idea. I had to shoe 4 of my 5 beasties out of my project today alone! I guess it's that time of year - days are getting shorter and nights cooler. (Finally!) All your projects are great. I love "the beast" and it's brightness. And the Dr. Seuss quilt is fantastic. Wild and whimsical just like Dr. Seuss himself. The grandson will love it. (And the pants of whoever that is holding the quilt up...me like cookies too!) Is your little place big enough to hold all of you? I look forward to seeing these quilts as they progress towards completion!

The Seuss top is great. I pondered that panel but passed on it because I didn't have an idea for using it. I did buy lots of fabric though, so I will get to some project using it eventually.
I love the friendship stars too. I think you made a perfect choice using a fairly simple block with busy fabric, balancing the whole thing out for me.
Did DS finish his program? It will be a shock for you to have a full house soon.
Don't know if you have a Jo-Ann store near you, but I usually get batting when they have it on sale.
Happy sewing.

Isn't it amazing how much you can accomplish given a certain amount of time at a certain time of the day, every day? This is what I do. One hour of sewing time every morning before work! Your tops are coming along wonderfully and I love the Dr. Suess. I still collect his books, LOL! I do the same thing Beth does and wait for the big JoAnne's sales to buy my batting. More power to you!

The Dr. Suess quilt is adorable and it will be fun to cuddle your grandson while you read stories. That's making memories time! All of your projects are great, you have used your time well! Sounds like a full house, that will keep things busy and interesting for a while!

What a good lot of work you got done there! It's heartening to see somebody getting things finished, as I chafe at the lack of sewing I've been able to do this past month. Love the colors - so cheery for drab winter days. :)
