Inside Only Today, or Thank Goodness I Have a Hobby!!

Jan 10, 2011

This is about as close to getting outside today as I am going to get.  It's bitter cold, and windy. Not a good combination here in the Land Of Enchantment.  The window is all fogged up because I am having to boil water in the house to get some moisture in the air.  It gets so dry here, the static could run the toaster!!

I've been working on that wall hanging for the past week.  I tried that one week -one project thing.  I think it would have worked if I had not chosen (for some insane reason) to hand quilt it.
I bought this fabric sometime last year or so, not knowing what I was going to do with it...just loved it;)  I didn't realize it at the time, but the floral fabric and the skull fabric have a very similar color palette.  Both are by Alexander Henry, so that is probably why;)  Go figure;)

I tried to take a picture of the hand quilting from the front, but the camera didn't like it very well.  If you enlarge this one, you can see the echo quilting I am doing.  I'm still shaking my head as to why I decided to quilt it this way.  Glutton for punishment??  You should see my fingers from all the needle pricks. The callus' are coming along nicely;)

As for other news....the hubby has decided to dabble in home brewing....

I got him the brewing kit for Christmas.  He had been pining to do this for years.  I finally decided to spoil him a bit, and let him play;)  He gets to open the first bottle sometime later this week.  It's been in the process of becoming beer since the week before Christmas.  He drools every time he goes to check on it;)

I totally spaced that my brother's wife is due for delivery via C-section here in a couple of weeks.  I am throwing together a quilt for the baby from some greens that I have on hand.  Do you know how hard it is to find prints that are "boyish"???  I'm sure you have an idea.  Especially when you can't use blue.

I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the night, chit chat with the kids and family, and put my feet up.  The hubby is off for the rest of the week, so I need to get my "girl" time in...meaning I get to use the X-box tonight all by myself:)

Happy Quilting, and Stay Warm!!

The wind howled all weekend here, and blew the snow around as well.

I like that floral print -- especially the orange with all the other colours. Your hand quilting looks very nice, too. Good luck with the baby quilt. Hope your hubby enjoys that first beer

The floral fabric is so pretty! Since I am still hand quilting everything, yes it takes so long but the end results are so worth it. Keep plugging away and it will be done before you know it! We made a quick trip out to the bank early this morning and grabbed a burrito for breakfast. Haven't thought of going out since. It will pass in a couple of days. I feel bad thinking it is so cold and yucky here but my friends and family in Illinois and Wisconsin have it a lot worse. I'm sooooooo glad to have moved to the Southwest! Can't wait to see what you do with the baby quilt, it will be cute! Enjoy your girl time. Oh, almost forgot, my son-in-law in Washington makes his own beer and loves it. I'm not a beer drinker so I can't vouch for it but it sounds like fun to do.

Wish my latest attempt at hand quilting yesterday looked just half as good as yours, which looks great to me! The floral fabric is very pretty too. Your hubby looks like he's as excited about his beer as you are with your quilting. I guess I shouldn't complain, but I wish your weather would go another direction rather than here! I don't like this cold weather! No way could I live up north! ---"Love"

OOOOO, I LOVE THAT FABRIC! Can I have the scraps to play with? We are expecting our second snowstorm this evening. Our last one was on Saturday. Even though it is cold and snowy here, I look forward to the daffodils in Spring. The snow is doing them alot of good!

It looks like you've made some good progress on the hand quilting. And for a project you love, it's worth the time. Boyish fabrics are hard to come by, but why can't you use blue? (Just curious...) My dad started brewing his own beer a few years ago and then branched out into wine. It's an interesting process. I hope it tastes as good as the look on his face seems to anticipate!

Hand quilting does take a lot of time, but it is very relaxing too. I love how it looks.
Your bubby looks so excited about his beer that it almost makes me want some...almost. LOL Hope he enjoys every sip when he gets to crack it open.
