Hello, again, Everyone!!  Thought I would stop and say hello for a moment;)  The winds have changed here in Oregon and thoughts of fall and quilting, and camping;)  School is due to start up again here in the next few weeks, so the campgrounds will be empty again;)  We didn't know that camping was so popular that you would need to make reservations months (or even years, depending on the campground) ahead, so we got shut out of any outdoor adventures this summer.  That's fine...we can wait.

On to quilty things....

Yep...that's what is left of my stash.  I am okay with this.  There is alot more than meets the eye here as fabric is spread out in layers instead of folded up.  I have made it a point to work with what I have, filling in the gaps as needed to complete projects.  As mentioned before, it has taken some creativity to make it work, but that is what quilting was really about.  Not complaining, just sayin'.

The evolution of my quilting space...Yes, I have taken over what should have been the dining area in the kitchen.  You can't tell really from the picture, but the lighting in there is wonderful for sewing.  I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but I picked up that monster of a desk from a church rummage sale for $5.  It holds all my threads, patterns, scissors, writing materials, and way way more.  And as you can see from the picture, my cutting mat fits on it with room to spare.  AWESOME!!

I have hung up little inspirations over the desk.  I contemplated putting up a design wall, but wanted something that would show the things that I have accomplished instead of a to do list.  It has my daughter's early artwork (the horse in crayon), a photo of my son during his first major accomplishment ( a 9 mile hike up the side of a mountain that boasted a 6000' elevation gain), and a couple of my favorite small projects.  I also hung up a few ribbons I was awarded for past quilting accomplishments and a clay piece I made while I was in Okinawa.

The photo is a bit scewed, but this is the shelf in the kitchen that holds all my "artistic" stuff...crayons, markers, journals, light box, magazines, and other goodies.  One thing I have come to realize is that your gear needs to be accessible in a moments notice.  Routing through boxes stunts the creative process by wasting time on finding the stuff in the first place.

And the current project....ta! da!  The Cat In The Hat!!  Once again, I considered a design wall of batting, but am enjoying the freshly painted while walls.  I am not sure how this is going to go.....thinking snowball blocks (how The Cat in the Hat book snowballed into chaos), triple rail fence to keep the trouble out, and overall randomness and cohersion.  We will see.

I'm am pooped again.  Going to go rest and then get up with a fresh pot of coffee go juice.  Hope everyone is doing well, and Happy Quilting!!

I love it! Well done! Now tell me how you have the Cat in the Hat stuff hanging on a freshly painted wall?

to Liri: not quite so freshly painted as it was still wet, just not marked up with holes. I have the stuff taped up there for now.;)

You've done well with your sewing space. I think Oscar approves, too. That desk is wonderful and I believe design walls have become a bit overrated. I've never had one and I'm doing just fine. (Even with the occassional cat help when I lay things out on the floor!) Your stash is respectable, too! And the Cat in the Hat quilt is going to be great. I toyed with buying some of that fabric myself and my frugal side won that battle...I look forward to seeing how it all comes together. And your fall outdoor adventures!

What a nice sewing area you've set up! That desk was a steal too! Your craft shelf will make life a lot easier I'm sure. I hate having to look for a certain pen, or whatever! Cat in the Hat is going to be so special; can't wait to see it all finished! Have fun! ---"Love"

Your sewing area is looking good. Great deal on the desk. Glad you are able to get all your crafty stuff out and visible. I find I just don't want to do much if I have to dig for supplies.
Can't wait to see where the Cat in the Hat goes.
