Hello Everyone!!!  Hope all of you are doing well, staying warm, and getting some quilty stuff done;)

The sister-in-law is dilated to 5cm with labor pains coming in at 5 minute intervals.  She's still scheduled for a C-section on the first of February unless her water breaks, or she gets to 10 centimeters.  I have to wait until Thursday to mail this out, but it's done....
It's green. It's a baby quilt.  It's done!!  Katie had asked why I couldn't use blue for this....the Momma is decorating the nursery with black, white, and green.  It was a challenge, but I think I managed to make it look "boyish"...graphic, non-flowery, and still look a baby quilt.  That, and I could put this on my one-thing, one-week challenge;)

I'm not overly fond of Debbie Mumm fabrics, but this one did the trick.  I had a fabric with randomly placed polka dots, but I think the organized ones look better for a boy quilt.  Call me crazy, or picky;)
Hope she likes it;)

On another subject...the hubby and I have been out a few times this past week geocaching and hiking around in the nearby Open Space .  The weather here has been wonderful this week, with temperatures reaching almost 50*F in the afternoon.  With the possibility of winter really setting in the next month or so, we couldn't pass up the chance to get outside;)

Now, mind you...it's still icy here.  Because of our altitude, the atmosphere is just a touch thinner thus allowing alot of the heat to escape if we don't have a fair amount of cloud cover.  You can get sunburned in 20 minutes, or freeze in the shade.  We have learned the importance of dressing in multiple layers so we can adjust quickly to changing temperatures.

If you take a close look at this picture, you can see the frozen clouds of mist;)  Very, very cool:)

While we were out on the trail this week, we saw a coyote, a very healthy deer, a very large hawk out hunting, and though we didn't see it personally, the footprints a very sizable wild feline;)  We didn't get any pictures of the wildlife...we were too busy enjoying the moment;)

Speaking of felines, Oscar and I have still been going toe to toe on whether or not he gets to get on top of the wall hanging I have been working on....so he says this....

"Okay....will under work????"

I don't know what project I will be moving on to next.  I have been searching high and low for a large tumbler block template with no success.  I have seen pre-cuts in the stores, but no templates.  I was wanting to get one that was 6" wide at the bottom.  I can't figure out how to draft my own, or I would do that.  If anybody knows where a free template is on the web, or how to draft them, I would love to know;)

Okay, I'm done for now;)  Hope everyone has a great day, gets to relax, and get some quilting done;)

Happy Quilting!!

I love the baby quilt. You did a great job thinking outside the blue or pink baby quilt box. I'm sure it will be loved and used. The pictures from your hikes are beautiful. I need to get out there more, but I don't like being cold and it's COLD right now!

I love the green for a baby quilt. I did one recently and the mom thanked my endlessly for not using blue. She should love it!

You can draft your own tumbler block paterns by using a 60 degree ruler from you LQS or a protracter. A tumber block is essentially a square, but with the corners angled at 60 degrees and 120 degrees to make a diamond. All sides should be six inches. Start with a line straight up and down. Angle your next line at 60 degrees down and to the right. Angle your next line straight up and down (at 120 degrees). It should be parallel to the first line. Finish off the square with a parallel line to the second line to finish off the block. Hope that makes sense! If that doesn't work, I can probably e-mail you a template from EQ.

Your baby quilt is adorable. The backing reminds me of the marbles little boys used to play with when I was a kid; I think you made a great choice! Your quilting looks very neat too! ---"Love"

I love the mix of fabrics in the baby quilt -- especially the plaid -- and the backing is perfect, too. Great job. Your hiking pictures are amazing.

The green baby quilt is fantastic, I love the colors! The backing is great, too. Very boyish! Your trips outside sound fun, I have always wanted to see a mountain lion in the wild but not too up close! Enjoy your quilting!

More amazing photos. I think I'm going to have to put your area on my list of must-see places. (Of course, I'm probably just immune to the beauty around me...) The baby quilt turned out great and now I understand the no green issue, though I often give a big "whatever" to a mom who must have the quilt they know I'm going to make them match the nursery...if I'm gonna put in all that work, I'm gonna like what I'm doing! (And so far noone has given me a "whatever" when the quilt finally shows up!) Good luck with the tumblers...

Love the green quilt. You did a wonderful job on the quilting too. Your dots on the back are perfect.
I have a tumbler template somewhere, I will look and see how big it is.
Great photos! The icy mist is cool.
Glad you could get out and enjoy it.
