Momma and baby are safe at home;)  She's in a bit of pain due to the fact they didn't do a pre-emptive episotomy...yeah, that will take a bit to get better.  Other than that, she's resting, and the baby is healthy. Talked to the Daddy, and you can tell he's proud;)  And doing his part in letting her rest;)

Orientation was orientation yesterday.  Nothing I haven't heard over the last 20 years of working.  It's only part time, so hopefully it won't kill my personal endeavours.  The hubby is helping out with the house work so I don't feel overwhelmed, and can get some quilty time in;)  Good man;)

As for quilting....
I was spinning in circles on Monday with the girl in delivery mode, so I pulled out my stash and then laid on the floor.  I couldn't figure out what to do....I didn't have anything I wanted to use as a backing for the green hippo quilt, not enough batting to baste any of the big quilts in the UFO pile, didn't feel like fussing with what to do with the specialty prints I've picked up, and too much of stuff that I had collected with no real initial purpose other than gathering.
The hubby sat down with me when he found me laying in the middle of my stash and tried to help me get a grip on something I might want to work with.  He actually came up with some good ideas.  I knew he threw a few out there that were practically absurd, but I think he did that to get my head working again.  He calls it "twirling" when I get like this;)

So, what I decided to do was to take some colors/prints that I don't usually work with just to get them out of my stash.

I have a collection of browns that have just been taking up space.  Brown is not my favorite thing to work with, but I came across a quilt that used browns as the dark (who would have thought!), with purples and greens and golds as the lights.....

This is the first block for the quilt.  Those are 1 3/4" squares, with the block size at 11 1/2" or so.  This is going to take a bit longer than I had originally expected, but I suppose that's okay.  I'm just going to randomly put a brown print with one of the colors listed above.
And I still have leftovers of these fabrics enough to make another block or two of some other design!!  And scraps that go in the scrap bin!!
That's a good thing;)

I don't mind going back to work.  It's going to give my brain something else to do besides think too much about things I can't do anything about right now.  Plus it will give us the money we need to get back into school. We've been looking at the job market a lot lately.  Even something as simple as an AA, combined with our experience would put us in the market for jobs that would sustain our existence for a very long time.  We are getting too "old" to be doing "grunt labor".  And I will even be a little egotistical here and say that we are too intelligent to just push brooms and move boxes the rest of our lives.

Enough on that;)  I have a clean house, a daughter done with delivery, and a quilt (or five) in the works.
Happy Quilting!!

Your stash looks like a lot of fun, but that's probably because it's not in MY closet staring ME in the face! I look forward to seeing what this tease of a quilt block becomes.

I'm glad to hear mama and baby are safely home. I hope your daughter heals quickly.

I have said it before but it is worth repeating -- your husband is one in a million!

Your quilt block is looking great. I have recently discovered 'brown' and think it has a lot to offer.

So happy to hear that your daughter and baby are doing well -- such exciting times.

Glad to hear everyone is home and resting. It's great your son in law is being such a good dad and husband. Those extra moments of rest really help a new mom!

Your quilt blocks are great, I love the brown with the purple, it looks wonderful. Can't wait to see what is next. It's good to have someone giving suggestions, even silly ones, when you are stuck with what to do. He sounds like a good guy helping to keep you focused. And helping around the house, too. He is a keeper!

Going back to school is always a good idea. My youngest daughter just told me she is planning on doing it, too. It will make a huge difference in marketability for job hunting. Good luck with your new job and plans for school!

Glad your daughter and baby are home. Sounds like they are doing fine! (I always hated when the DR didn't do an episotomy, a clean cut almost always heals better and faster than a tear. Oh well she will heal).
You stash looks like a lot of fun. I am very interested in your "brown" blocks. So far it looks pretty.
Happy sewing. Enjoy the work.

What a collection of fabrics you have! You should be able to find almost anything you want there! Surely there's at least 2 or 3 baby quilts there, you think?? *wink* ---"Love"

Delighted to read that mum and bub are home safe and well. That's a fantastic collection of fabrics! I think you have an idea there - taking out all your fabrics and nfiding long forgotten buys. You can also see the gaps in the collection. What a nice DH to offer his assistance. Love the colour combination you have chosen bit oh my, such tiny pieces! Ann :-)
